ANIMALS AT NIGHT

How do nocturnal animals find their way in the dark? Domestic cats have that can adapt to darkness. But in the wild, the mechanisms are more sophisticated. The eyes of an owl contain a large number of rod and nerve cells. These cells respond to dim and light and to changes in light intensity. Would you believe it if you are told that an owl can detect a moving mouse in one millionth o a candle power of light? Snakes make use of their sense of smell. Their tongue picks up smell particles around them. Some animals have a sort of kinesthetic sense which helps them to move about at night in familiar territory. Today, with very sophisticated cameras and lighting devices, it is possible to photograph and make recordings of the cries of animals in their dark and inaccessible forest haunts.
